Twenty-five years ago a small, determined group of people came together in a boardroom in Toronto to create this company. We started the business with a talented team that wasn’t afraid to dream big.  Today Barrick Gold is the world’s preeminent gold company, respected for its financial strength and its ability to identify and act on opportunities. Above all, Barrick is recognized as a company that delivers on its promises.

From day one, our primary responsibility has been to provide value to our shareholders, the people who provide the capital that allows this company to operate.  This responsibility required that we strike the right balance between strong financial management and entrepreneurial skill. Shareholder value has been and will always remain paramount. 

True value is not created only through the dollar value of the return.  True value is built through responsible operations and integrity in conduct.  Our reputation is everything.  Our responsible mining practices and the values of those who work here define us, as individuals and as an enterprise.  We could not exist or prosper as a public company of our size without a passionate commitment to results, to performance and to ethical, socially and environmentally responsible operations. 

I am deeply proud of the company we founded 25 years ago. In the years since, thousands of men and women have contributed to its progress, investing in it their energy, integrity and extraordinary talents. Like that small group in a boardroom in Toronto 25 years ago, those here today believe in Barrick’s responsibilities and in its values.   The spirit of entrepreneurship, the duty of leadership and the passion to succeed are strong in us still and will serve this great company for decades to come.
