Global Overview

Barrick’s operating mines are located in some of the world’s most prospective gold districts in North America, South America, Australia Pacific and Africa (through its interest in African Barrick Gold). As at December 31, 2009, the Company has proven and probable gold reserves of 139.8 million ounces, the largest unhedged reserves in the industry, in addition to 6.1 billion pounds of copper reserves and 1.06 billion ounces of silver contained within gold reserves1.

In 2009, Barrick continued its track record of meeting guidance with gold production of 7.4 million ounces at total cash costs of $466 per ounce2 (net cash costs of $363 per ounce)3 and copper production of 393 million pounds at total cash costs of $1.17 per pound2.

For 2010, Barrick expects to produce 7.6 - 8.0 million ounces of gold at total cash costs of $425-$455 per ounce2 or net cash costs of $345-$375 per ounce3. The Company is also expecting to produce 340-365 million pounds of copper at total cash costs of $1.10-$1.20 per pound2.
