Kanowna
Barrick has a strong presence in the Eastern Goldfields near Kalgoorlie-Boulder, 570 kilometres east of Perth in Western Australia. In addition to the Kalgoorlie Super Pit, operations in this region consist of both refractory and free milling ore types that is mined over a large area and processed at the Kanowna Belle mill. There are currently three underground mines in production (collectively “Kanowna”): Kanowna Belle, Raleigh, and Bullant.
Kanowna Belle uses a longhole stoping with paste fill mining method, selected to minimize the impact of mining induced stress on the underground operations through the use of geotechnical driven mining sequence and a fill system integral in the mining cycle.

Raleigh utilizes an underhand longhole bench stoping with paste fill mining method, chosen to minimize the impact of mining induced stress on the underground operations through the use of a geotechnical driven mining sequence and a fill system integral in the mining cycle.
Bullant utilizes retreat sublevel stoping as its mining method. Empty stopes are filled with rock-fill.
During 2008, Kanowna produced approximately 267,000 ounces of gold at a cash cost of $529 per ounce1. Proven and probable mineral reserves as of December 31, 2008 are estimated at 1.3 million ounces of gold2. In 2009, Kanowna is expected to produce 260,000 - 280,000 ounces of gold at a cash cost of $510 - $540 per ounce.
