Reko Diq

The Reko Diq project, a large copper-gold porphyry mineral deposit on the Tethyan belt in which Barrick holds a 37.5% interest through Tethyan Copper Company (TCC), is located in southwest Pakistan in the province of Balochistan. As of year-end 2010, Barrick’s share of measured and indicated and inferred gold resources are 9.5 million ounces and 6.4 million ounces1, respectively and its share of measured and indicated and inferred copper resources are 11.7 billion pounds and 8.4 billion pounds1, respectively.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan affirmed the jurisdiction of the provincial Government of Baluchistan (GoB) to grant the mining license in the third quarter. In September 2011, the GoB informed TCC that it considered the mining lease application to be incomplete and unsatisfactory. TCC has responded to the government's comments on the application and will take appropriate steps to protect its interest in the property, including through international arbitration if necessary.
