John L. Thornton , Executive Chairman of the Board

John L. Thornton was appointed Executive Chairman of Barrick Gold Corporation on April 30, 2014.

Mr. Thornton has extensive experience in business, finance, and public affairs. He has served on the boards of international public companies, including China Unicom, Ford Motor Company, HSBC, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Intel, and News Corporation. Mr. Thornton retired as President of Goldman Sachs in 2003, and is currently a Professor and Director of the Global Leadership Program at the Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management in Beijing, and a member of the Advisory Board of the Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management.

He is also Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Brookings Institution, and a member of the Board of Trustees of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, and the African Leadership University.

As Chairman of Barrick, Mr. Thornton continues the tradition established by the Company’s Founder Peter Munk, with a focus on strategic vision, strong financial management, entrepreneurial spirit, and a deep commitment to operational excellence.

At present, Mr. Thornton holds 2.7 million Barrick common shares.


Kelvin Dushnisky , President

Kelvin Dushnisky was appointed President of Barrick in August 2015 and joined the Company's Board of Directors in February 2016. He provides overall leadership to the organization and holds responsibility for the execution of Barrick’s strategic priorities. He has held a series of progressively senior positions since joining the Company in 2002. In 2013, Mr. Dushnisky was named Chairman of the Board of Directors of London-listed African Barrick Gold plc (now Acacia Mining plc).

Prior to Barrick, Mr. Dushnisky served as Vice Chairman, General Counsel and a founding Director of EuroZinc Mining Corporation, Vice President of Sutton Resources Ltd. (acquired by Barrick) and Vice President of Rescan Consultants Inc. He has served on the boards of directors for a number of publicly listed companies.

Mr. Dushnisky holds a B.Sc. (Hon.) degree from the University of Manitoba and M.Sc. and J.D. degrees from the University of British Columbia. He is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia, the Canadian Bar Association, the Business Council of Canada, the Institute of the Americas, the Canadian Council for the Americas (Vice-Chair) and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Dushnisky represents Barrick at the World Gold Council (Chair, Investment Committee), and the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM). He is a member of the International Advisory Board of the Shanghai Gold Exchange and the Accenture Global Mining Executive Council. Mr. Dushnisky is a Trustee and a member of the Board of Directors of the University Health Network (UHN).


Kevin Thomson , Senior Executive Vice President, Strategic Matters

Kevin Thomson was appointed Senior Executive Vice President, Strategic Matters, in October 2014. He is one of Canada's most distinguished securities lawyers and had worked closely with Barrick's management team and its Board of Directors as a key strategic advisor to the Company since 1995.

In this role, he is intimately involved in all activities of strategic significance to the Company, including the development of partnerships with investors, suppliers and other business partners, strategic legal issues, management of complex negotiations, as well as development of corporate strategy and governance.

He was previously a senior partner at Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP, where he advised many of Canada's largest and most successful public companies.

Mr. Thomson earned a Law degree from Queen's University after completing a B.A. with Distinction in History.


Catherine Raw , Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Catherine Raw was appointed Chief Financial Officer of Barrick in April 2016. She joined the Company in May 2015 as Executive Vice President, Business Performance, and was previously Co-Manager of BlackRock’s flagship mining funds.

Ms. Raw’s experience as one of the largest investors in the mining sector gives her an intimate knowledge of the global mining investment universe and an understanding of the fundamental drivers of superior performance in the industry. She spent years leading in-depth analysis and evaluation of every major mining company in the world. Her background, combining a foundation in geology with over a decade of experience in mining investment, brings a unique skill-set and deep insight to Barrick.

Prior to joining BlackRock in 2003, Ms. Raw worked with Anglo American Plc in London and Johannesburg, and as a geological field assistant in Sweden. She holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation, a Master’s degree in Natural Sciences, with first class honors, from Downing College, University of Cambridge, and a Master of Science in Mineral Project Appraisal from Imperial College London.


Darian Rich , Executive Vice President, Talent Management

Darian Rich was appointed Executive Vice President, Talent Management, in July 2014, a new position that reflects the critical requirement that any company seeking to be the leader in its field must attract, retain and develop exceptional people. He joined Barrick in 2012 and was most recently Senior Vice President, Human Resources. He has responsibility for all aspects of global Human Resources.

Mr. Rich has more than 25 years of diversified experience in human resources management. He was previously Vice President, Human Resources, for Albemarle Corporation, and held several positions in the U.S. and Asia during his 12 years with The Coca-Cola Company. Prior to that he held senior roles with Magma Copper and General Motors Corporation.

Mr. Rich is a graduate of the Labor and Human Relations program at Ohio State University, and earned a Master of Science degree in Administration from Central Michigan University. He holds several professional certifications, including Certified Compensation Professional, Certified Benefit Professional, and Global Remuneration Professional from the American Compensation Association.


Richard Williams , Chairman’s Executive Envoy to Tanzania

Richard Williams was appointed the Chairman’s Executive Envoy to Tanzania in February 2018. Previously, as Chief Operating Officer of Barrick, he led the transformation of the Company’s operating system, delivering significant improvements in safety, environmental management, and operating efficiency. He was also responsible for the reinvigoration of our innovation process, the initial phases of our digital transformation, and the start-up of our integrated supply chain and maintenance system. He joined Barrick in October 2014 as Chief of Staff.

Mr. Williams served for 20 years in the British Army including command of the Special Air Service (SAS), an elite Special Forces unit, leading operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, the Balkans, South America and the UK. After leaving the military, Mr. Williams worked as an advisor at the UK-based hedge fund Lansdowne Partners, JPMorgan Cazenove, and as a Non-Executive Director of Gem Diamonds Ltd.—a London- listed mining company. He has also been the founder and Managing Director of a number of mineral exploration and services companies active in Afghanistan, Central Asia and Africa.

He holds a Master’s degree in Defence and Security Studies from King’s College London, an MBA from Cranfield University, and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from University College London.


Rob Krcmarov , Executive Vice President, Exploration and Growth

Rob Krcmarov was appointed Executive Vice President, Exploration and Growth in March 2016. He was previously Senior Vice President, Global Exploration, with responsibility for Barrick’s exploration activities worldwide. With nearly 30 years of experience in geology and exploration, he leads a global team of geoscientists and exploration professionals at Barrick who are responsible for the discovery of a number of the largest gold deposits in recent decades, including Lagunas Norte and Goldrush, in addition to Alturas, an equally promising new discovery in Chile.

Early in his career, Mr. Krcmarov worked extensively in Australia, Chile and Peru with Homestake Mining, which was acquired by Barrick in 2001. At that time, he was appointed Barrick’s General Manager Exploration for Australia, and subsequently took on responsibility for exploration in Africa and Asia before becoming Vice President, Global Exploration in 2005.

Mr. Krcmarov holds a Bachelor of Science (Honors) degree from the University of Adelaide, and a Master’s degree in Economic Geology from the University of Tasmania. He is a Fellow of the Society of Economic Geologists and a member of the Board of Trustees for the Society of Economic Geologists Foundation. He is also an active member of several major professional associations, including the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, and the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC).


Mark Hill , Chief Investment Officer

Mark Hill was appointed Chief Investment Officer in September 2016—a new position that ensures a high degree of consistency and rigor is applied to all capital allocation decisions at Barrick.

Mr. Hill chairs Barrick's Investment Committee, bringing added technical experience to the investment review process. He is also a member of the Company's Executive Committee, as well as our Growth Group, and oversees an Evaluations team, who independently scrutinizes proposed expenditures before they go to the Investment Committee.

Mr. Hill has more than 25 years of experience in the mining industry. He re-joined Barrick after four years at Waterton Global Resource Management, where he was a partner and Head of Mining. Mr. Hill's prior positions at Barrick included Vice President, Evaluations, and Vice President, Capital Projects. He has also held senior positions with BHP Billiton, AngloGold Ashanti, Placer Dome, and WMC Ltd.

Mr. Hill holds a Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, and a Graduate Diploma in Mineral Economics.


Kathy Sipos , Chief of Staff

Kathy Sipos was appointed Chief of Staff to the Company's executive leadership team in September 2015. In this role, Ms. Sipos facilitates and coordinates the activities of the executive leadership team to ensure seamless and efficient decision-making and execution against priority initiatives.

Ms. Sipos returned to Barrick in 2015 after playing keys roles at the Company from 1996 to 2006, initially in Communications, and then as Director of Investor Relations. She went on to serve as Vice President of Investor Relations at Gabriel Resources, followed by Vice President of Investor and Stakeholder Relations at Teranga Gold Corporation.

Ms. Sipos holds an MBA from the University of Toronto, as well as Bachelor's degrees in Arts and Education from Queen's University.


Rich Haddock , Senior Vice President and General Counsel

Rich Haddock was appointed Senior Vice President and General Counsel in November 2014. He joined Barrick in 1997, and has more than 25 years of in-house mining experience. His previous roles at Barrick include Vice President, Environment, and Regional President, North America.

Prior to joining Barrick, Mr. Haddock was Assistant General Counsel at Santa Fe Pacific Gold Corporation, and was a partner at Denver-based law firm Holme Roberts & Owen, where his practice emphasized on natural resource litigation.

Mr. Haddock holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geology from Brigham Young University, and a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Utah.


Greg Walker , Senior Vice President, Operational and Technical Excellence

Greg Walker was appointed Senior Vice President, Operational and Technical Excellence in November 2017. In this role, he is responsible for driving transformational business improvement and Best-in-Class performance across Barrick’s operations.

Previously, Mr. Walker was Executive General Manager of the Pueblo Viejo mine in the Dominican Republic. He joined Barrick in 2003, and advanced through a series of progressively senior operational leadership roles in complex and challenging environments, including General Manager of the Bulyanhulu mine in Tanzania and Executive General Manager of the Porgera Joint Venture in Papua New Guinea.

Mr. Walker holds a post graduate diploma in Extractive Metallurgy from the Western Australian School of Mines at Curtin University.


Matthew Gili , Senior Vice President, Operations Projects

Matthew Gili was appointed Senior Vice President, Operations Projects, in November 2017. His initial focus is to advise Barrick on Tanzanian matters. Mr. Gili joined Barrick in 2013 as Executive General Manager for the Cortez District in Nevada, and was most recently Chief Technical Officer.

Prior to joining Barrick, he served in a variety of management roles with Rio Tinto over 15 years, including as Chief Operating Officer of the company's Mongolian operations, and Vice President of Resource Strategy for the Oyu Tolgoi project. His other roles included Managing Director of Palabora Mining Company, South Africa, and Mine Manager, Greens Creek, Alaska. Mr. Gili also served as Chairman of the Board of Governors for the Palabora Foundation, an independent educational trust supporting the educational and health needs of the Phalaborwa community.

Mr. Gili earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering at the University of Idaho, and also holds an Idaho professional engineer certification.


Michelle Ash , Chief Innovation Officer

Michelle Ash joined Barrick in 2016, and was appointed Chief Innovation Officer later that year. In this role, Ms. Ash oversees the Company's strategy for long-term innovation—ways innovation can drive productivity in the existing business, optimizing our approach to research and development, as well as opportunities to deliver alternative business models.

Ms. Ash has more than 20 years of experience in the mining and manufacturing industries, including as Head of Alliance Planning and Co-ordination for the BHP Mitsubishi Alliance, and General Manager Strategy for MMG. She joined Acacia Mining Plc in October 2013 as Executive General Manager, Business Improvement and Planning, and later became Chief Operating Officer. At Acacia, Michelle worked with mine general managers to drive a business improvement culture, spearheading significant operational improvements that led to meaningful reductions in operating costs.

Ms. Ash holds a degree in psychology from Deakin University, and both a degree in Civil Engineering, and an Executive MBA, from the Melbourne Business School.


Sham Chotai , Chief Digital Officer

Sham Chotai joined Barrick in August 2017 as Chief Digital Officer—a new role to drive forward the Company's transformation into a digital enterprise, in ways that are entirely new to the mining industry.

Mr. Chotai has brought together Barrick's Information Management and Technology function, and our Digital Transformation team, ensuring an integrated approach to the development and implementation of digital systems and technologies across the Company. This transformation is enabling us to improve the productivity of our existing operations, unlock new value at our projects, further optimize capital allocation across the portfolio, and manage risks and opportunities in near real-time. In addition, digital technologies are allowing us to be more transparent with, and accountable to our partners, including host communities and governments.

Mr. Chotai came to Barrick with 25 years of experience in digital technology, business intelligence, and software development. He joined us from GE, where he served as Chief Technology Officer for the company’s Power & Water and Transportation divisions. Prior to GE, he was Vice President, Cloud Computing for Hewlett-Packard. Mr. Chotai also led the development of a patented predictive analytics platform for the pharmaceutical and biotech industries at DecisionView Software, a company he co-founded.


Peter Sinclair , Chief Sustainability Officer

Peter Sinclair was appointed Chief Sustainability Officer in September 2015. In this role, Mr. Sinclair focuses on long-term, strategic sustainability trends, helping management and the Board of Directors anticipate changes, and manage key external risks to our license to operate. He leads our head office Community Relations, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Government Affairs teams, ensuring we maintain leading company-wide sustainability policies and practices, and engagement with external partners, including NGOs, international institutions, and the growing responsible investment community.

With more than two decades of experience in stakeholder relations and international development, Mr. Sinclair joined Barrick in 2005 to establish the Company's CSR group. Previously, he held a number of senior management positions with international NGOs, and spent 12 years living and working abroad, including in Swaziland, Rwanda, the Congo, Chechnya, and the UK.

Mr. Sinclair represents Barrick on a wide range of multi-stakeholder initiatives and industry associations. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Queen’s University, and a Master's degree in International Development from the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex, England.
