Welcome to Elko, the heart of Northeastern Nevada

Land of adventures, Elko offers countless amenities with a small-town feel. Elko County is home to 53,000 residents over 17,400 square miles. The City of Elko is the central community, and home for the majority of Barrick’s employees and their families.

Originating in 1868, the city of Elko started as a railroad town developing into a central mining and ranching community. Today, Elko is home to fifth generation ranchers, and is the leading producer of gold in the United States.

Elko sits at an elevation of 5,060 feet and experiences four (mostly mild) annual seasons.

The majestic Ruby Mountains located just twenty miles south of Elko offer trails for hiking and ponds for fishing during warmer months and limitless opportunities for winter activities such as snowshoeing, snowmobiling and even heli-skiing.

Reno, Nevada is only 289 miles to the west, and bordering states of Utah and Idaho provide opportunities for a quick getaway. Elko is located 240 miles west of Salt Lake City, Utah, and 250 miles south of Boise, Idaho.
