Beyond the headline figures, Barrick’s contributions play a meaningful role in national and regional economies.
For Barrick, taxes and royalties are more than a financial obligation. They are a key way the company helps create lasting value in the countries where it operates, supporting government revenues, infrastructure development and broader national priorities.

Beyond the headline figures, Barrick’s contributions play a meaningful role in national and regional economies. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Kibali mine remained the largest economic contributor in the country’s northeast, generating $1.1 billion in economic value through taxes, royalties, dividends, salaries and local procurement. In the Dominican Republic, Barrick contributed more than $1.5 billion to the national economy in 2025, including a $150 million advance royalty payment made to support the government’s fiscal position.
Creating Value Beyond the Mine
While taxes and royalties are an important source of government revenue, Barrick’s impact extends well beyond its fiscal contributions. Through local employment, supplier partnerships, infrastructure development and community investment, the company helps create lasting economic opportunities and build local capacity in the regions where it operates.
In 2025, Barrick spent $7.1 billion with host-country suppliers, helping support thousands of local businesses and entrepreneurs. Across its operations, Barrick continues to invest in projects that deliver benefits beyond the mine gate. In Papua New Guinea, the company completed refurbishment work on staff housing at Paiam Hospital under the Infrastructure Tax Credit Scheme, helping strengthen local healthcare capacity. In Tanzania, Barrick’s Future Forward education initiative is expanding school infrastructure nationwide and is expected to create classroom capacity for approximately 45,000 students.
A Long-Term Partner to Host Communities
Barrick’s 2025 results demonstrate the scale of the company’s contribution to the economies in which it operates and its commitment to transparency and responsible tax practices. The company’s approach is straightforward: pay the right amount of taxes, royalties and dividends to the state, in the right place and at the right time, while creating employment, supporting local businesses and investing in the communities where it operates.
The 2025 Tax Contribution Report underscores Barrick’s commitment to sharing the benefits of mining with host countries and communities. Through responsible operations, long-term investment and partnerships built on mutual success, Barrick remains focused on creating lasting value that supports national development and helps communities prosper long after the life of a mine.
