International Graduate Development Program Promotes Future Leaders
As part of our commitment to engage and develop local and national employees, Barrick launched the RDMC (Barrick) International Graduate Development Program(IGDP) in Pakistan in July 2023. Selected graduates from across Balochistan are given the opportunity to undergo on-the-job training at Barrick’s world-class mine sites. This initiative equips them with practical mining skills and nurtures a new generation of industry leaders. These young professionals return not only to strengthen the regional workforce but also to champion the growth of Reko Diq and their home province.
Since the launch of the International Graduate Development Program, two cohorts—comprising 27 talented graduates, including eight women—have embarked on this transformative journey with qualifications in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Renewable Energy and Geology.
“Being selected as an International Graduate Trainee is such an amazing opportunity and I am proud of securing this place,” said Masooma Sadaf, an electrical engineering graduate from Quetta. “I have always believed that hard work pays off and now I am an example of it.”
Abdullah Jan, a local from the Chagai district, is hopeful about the opportunities the Reko Diq project will bring. He says: “The Reko Diq project will undoubtedly enable district Chagai to become a center for development in the province of Balochistan. I am hopeful about the future of my district, my province and the country.”
Mohammad Owais from IGDP 2024 cohort, belongs to District Chagai, is currently under training at Barrick’s Lumwana mine. “Reko Diq Mining Company’s IGDP program is the best vision for future which will surely benefit many more graduates. RDMC and Barrick’s IGDP selection process is completely merit based which has restored hope among the young generation of Balochistan.”
The Hunar Foundation – RDMC Technical Training Center
RDMC, with the support of the Nok Kundi Community Development Committee, has established the RDMC Technical Training Institute in Nok Kundi, District Chagai, in collaboration with The Hunar Foundation.
The Hunar Foundation, a non-profit organization founded in 2008, is committed to empowering marginalized youth across Pakistan through vocational and technical skills training. This joint initiative aims to equip local community members with practical, market-relevant skills to enhance their employability and support self-reliance. By developing a skilled workforce in Chagai, the program encourages entrepreneurship and opens up employment opportunities not just at the Reko Diq project but also in small and medium-sized enterprises.
Since its launch, the institute has enrolled 286 students in Phases I and II, with an additional 291 students currently participating in Phase III. The training programs cover a range of trades including information technology, pipefitting, office assistance, electrical work, industrial stitching, carpentry, and masonry, helping transform lives and promote sustainable development in the region.
