International Graduate Development Program Promotes Future Leaders
As part of our commitment to engage and develop local and national employees, Barrick launched the RDMC (Barrick) International Graduate Program in Pakistan in July 2023. The primary goal is to cultivate a cadre of future experts and leaders who will not only improve the region's skill landscape but also champion the Reko Diq Mining Company along with their province. This annual program culminated in the selection of an initial nine young graduates from across Balochistan, including four women, with qualifications in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Renewable Energy and Geology.
“Being selected as an International Graduate Trainee is such an amazing opportunity and I am proud of securing this place,” said Masooma Sadaf, an electrical engineering graduate from Quetta. “I have always believed that hard work pays off and now I am an example of it.”
Abdullah Jan, a local from the Chagai district, is hopeful about the opportunities the Reko Diq project will bring. He says: “The Reko Diq project will undoubtedly enable district Chagai to become a center for development in the province of Balochistan. I am hopeful about the future of my district, my province and the country.”
“Inspired by Barrick leader Mark Bristow, I embrace the belief that fortune favors the bold, recognizing that within every challenge lies an opportunity for personal and public development”, says Fareed Manzoor, a mechanical engineer hailing from Panjgur.
The Hunar Foundation – RDMC Technical Training Center
RDMC, with support from the Nok Kundi Community Development Committee, has signed a memorandum of understanding with The Hunar Foundation to establish a vocational training center in Nok Kundi, district Chagai.
The Hunar Foundation is a non-profit organization established in 2008 to empower and support the marginalized youth of Pakistan through vocational and technical skills training.
“This project was conceived to bridge the skill-gap prevalent once we realized the consistent demand for employment and lack of skills-development in the local population,” said Ali Ehsan Rind, RDMC Country Manager. “Through this partnership we will create a cadre of skilled workers from Chagai who will then be able to stand on their own feet through the creation of small businesses and enhanced employment opportunities at small and medium size companies.”
