“Every person going home safe and healthy every day.”
Nothing is more important to us than the health, safety and well-being of our people. Whether employees or contractors, ensuring our people go home from work safe and healthy each day is one of our foundational values. It is our top priority, every day, through every phase of the mine life cycle.
Our commitment to safety is codified in a range of standards, policy guidelines, operating procedures and systems that describe accountability, controls and other requirements for managing risks. Having the right documentation and guidance in place is important. However, we know that safety is something that is lived through behavior and implemented on the ground at operations, not on a piece of paper or behind an office door. That is why we prioritize developing a safety culture, and a safety-first mindset. All our people, including contractors, receive safety and risk awareness training from the first time they set foot on site, and this training continues throughout their tenure with us and includes focused specialist training by job role and risk.
We are committed to developing a world-class safety culture at Reko Diq built on a health and safety management system, which will include:
- Site-level risk assessments to identify and inform people of any potential operational risks and the most appropriate controls.
- Comprehensive training programs from initial site inductions through to specific safety system and emergency management training.
- Monitoring through regular internal and external audits, inspections and assurance reviews.
- Visibly present leadership and engagement.
- Personal well-being – all our sites have fit-for-work programs which consider the importance of mental health, adequate sleep, diet and exercise. Our site has a comprehensive medical facility equipped to deal with onsite medical emergencies.
Safety is not a destination we will or can arrive at and say the job is done. It is a continuous journey and requires a concerted effort every day. When we complete an injury-free workday today, the journey to an injury-free workday starts again tomorrow. We call this Journey to Zero.
